The LPN/RN - BSN Program at the U of A

Hello everyone, welcome to our web and R will start in just a couple of minutes. Will give a little bit more time for students to log on.

For those of you just joining us, welcome will get started in just about a minute.

Alrighty, thank you all for joining us today. We are so thrilled that you're interested in the University of Arkansas that you're joining us to learn more about our online nursing programs. My name is Olga Mercia and my role with the University of Arkansas is admission counselor for transfer central, so I'll be talking to you today about the general admission process and then my colleague, Miss Jamie will be talking to you a little bit more in detail about the nursing on line.

Programs I also want to introduce a few other of our colleagues that are in the chat that will be assisting with the chat. So from admissions we have Chad Cox from our transfer Central Department and he is associate director for transfer central. We have Christopher Robinson who senior intermission counselor. We have miss Kim Snow who was an online recruiter for Global Campus and we have Miss Patty Milner who is the director for recruitment and student outreach for online programs.

So they will be assisting with any questions that you may have in the chat box. So if you do have any questions throughout the presentation, feel free to ask those away in the chat box area. Now we will have a Q&A session as well. Towards the end of the presentation.

So another tidbit we will be recording this web and are so if you would like the copy of the recording, feel free to email us at transfer at york.edu and will go ahead and send you a copy of that recording for you to use.

So the first process for the first step in the process is applying for general admission.

We have two different student classifications for general admission. We have a new transfer student classification, Anna transfer freshman student classification. So whenever a student is applying they will go to apply.uark.edu and submit the application a semester before they're anticipating to start. So we issue a general admission decision with one semester end progress. So for a new transfer student, new transfer student has more than 24 transferable hours, so we do require 2 review.

All official college transcripts from all schools that you've attended. So if you've attended a Community College, any University, then you will have to submit official transcripts from all of those schools when we're looking at admission requirements. If you have a 2.0 GPA cumulative, that will be admission and for a transfer freshman. If a student has less than 24 transferable hours, then they also have to present high school transcript. So the GPA requirement for that is a 3.0 and then they also have to present.

Test scores so AC T or S80 or accuplacer. So if you've been out of high school for three or more years, then you can submit an accuplacer Test score for us. For the AC T you have to have a 20 for the essay tea at 10:30 and then the equivalent of the accuplacer just so depending on which.

Accuplacer test you took what year? There's a different. A little bit of a difference in the test scores that were looking at for admission.

So once a student.

Then meets general admission. Then you can apply to the nursing program. Now, if you're an international student, you do have to go through the international admissions office. If you happen to have any foreign transcripts, those are evaluated by our international admissions office.

So some tools that you can use in the process of preparing for transfer. We have two resources that you can use, that's of course equivalency guide and the transfer planning guide. And we're going to go into more detail in just a moment. But the course equivalency guide essentially what it is, is allowing you to see all of the courses that we've evaluated from that particular institution. That transfer planning guide will allow you to select the transferring institution and the major that you're interested in, and it'll populate into two different categories.

University core and degree plan, so we'll see that in just a moment. Once the student is admitted, they will have access to a transfer credit report and so that transfer credit report will tell you what is transferable, but not quite what's applicable. 'cause that is answered in advising session.

So this is what the course equivalency guide looks like.

So the institution that we're using here is an example. Is Johnson Community College.

And there's three ways of Reading this course equivalency guide. So the first three columns are the transferring institution and the three columns on the right hand side will be the University of Arkansas. So if we're looking at a class that has the University equivalent, like the first example on the first picture in the left, anthropology 1023 intro to cultural anthropology, that's how it transfers. That's how it's going to be applicable.

Now if we see maybe as an example an accounting transfer course, the equivalence will potentially say accounting transfer course and so that transfers as an elective possibly, and how it's going to be applied to your degree plan will be decided by an academic advisor. Now if it says NOTR 999, it doesn't transfer, so I would recommend not to take that class.

Now this is the transfer planning guide, so this is what I was talking about that it's divided into a plan requirements section and a University core requirements section. So it provides you with the course code that satisfies that particular requirement. So if we're looking at Watt requirements, fulfill math for the University of Arkansas, the blue will tell you the course code for that particular school. So we have northwest Arkansas Community College as the example, and finite is what we're looking at. So finite.

Math 2053 satisfies that math requirement.

So with that said, we also want to make sure that you understand that there is aid that you can utilize to find your education. So there's two different types of aid. There's gift and their self help, and then the sources are federal, state, the University or institution, and then within the University there's College and departmental scholarships potentially. And then of course outside scholarships. So just some things to keep in mind about that is paying attention to the requirements.

So some of them may be merit based. Some of them may be need based or a combination of both and then to also make sure to pay attention to those deadlines as well as you want to make sure to apply to all of the aid possible.

And then if we're talking about federal aid, you want to make sure to update the free application for federal student aid on a yearly basis, and to update it with the University of Arkansas school code when you decide that you want to transfer to the University of Arkansas for this upcoming academic year, they are going to be using the 2018 tax return. So again, it's really important for you to be able to start this process as early as possible. Like I said, a semester before you're anticipating, start early on in that semester. So for example.

Fall 2020 or fall 2021. Let's use that as an example. You apply in early January and then once you complete the admission process, you can proceed on to these steps, like completing your financial aid. So the reason why I want to bring this up is because sometimes students get randomly selected for verification, and so if you do, you want to make sure you have plenty of time to complete any additional documentation that you need to submit so that our financial aid office has plenty of time to provide you with your financial aid.

Package.

And if you're not already aware of what Fasa will evaluate you for its grants, its loans and work study, and if you're not familiar with that, the way that they calculate that there is an equation.

To to provide a better understanding of how the financial need is calculated. But without further ado, I'm going to pass it on to miss Jamie Ashmore. She's going to go over the nursing on line programs again. She is a senior online recruiter for Global Campus and she'll be able to go over those questions.

Yeah, so I'll go ahead and read some questions out loud and then maybe if you want to answer them and then we can go through their questions.

So I'll go ahead and let's see here.

Just a moment you guys require 2000 work hours, will that affect me?

Our clinical's allowed to be completed on weekends.

Now just a previous question that was asked and answered, also with the tuition price we locked in like any other universities do for their programs like other universities do for their programs. Excuse me.

And that was just recently answered where tuition is not locked in. It can change on the basis.

OK, so let's see here.

Marry asked.

Will you guys take a permit for the LP N because of Covad? The Board of Hawaii has been closed and her application will license endorsement with still pending.

We had another question. My current job is an LP N, but I do more office work then the clinicals hands on. With this effect the 2000 hours.

And that was Katie.

Angela asked most Bachelor programs, allow students to take the end claques for RN.

Once they've satisfied so mean semester slash credit hours while finishing up the remaining BSN program does uofa.

It doesn't work like that in progress, so um, so another question from Shannon which came just answered. She is living and Texas and she has all the prerequisites minus chemistry. did I understand that I could apply for the program and take chemistry concurrently? And so it was an answer that would correct?

OK, marry asked how many students do you guys taken for the program?

Miss Carissa just asked how many hours can you take outside of the nursing courses she is currently needing statistics, chemistry, lab and maybe some lectures.

I just asked is the transfer course review available even before applying to EU? They so all answer that question, the course equivalency guide and the transfer planning guide are available to students before applying for admission. For those are tools you can use way before an advance. You know, maybe you're starting at a Community College and you want to plan that process so those can be used ahead of time. Now the transfer credit report is not available until a student is admitted, so those are a few different things, but I think you were just talking about the course of global provide.

Crystal asked did I understand will be.

Kay Sharon asked, I am a 16 year alpian have recently changed jobs. Will this affect the 2000 hours?

One of the most recent questions. How many students are currently enrolled in the program was asked by Morgan.

Who is the program accredited by?

So uhm, marry. Your question was also regarding when should we send in our transcripts to be evaluated?

So when you're applying for general mission, you want to submit transcripts at least this semester before you're wanting to start. So for example, I use the example of fall of 2021. You want to start applying in January, so you should send transcripts whenever you begin the application. So around that point, if you're starting to spring semester, then August September is when you need to apply Jamie.

A little more detail, because once you meet general mission you have to apply to the nursing program, so there may be a different perspective there too, or something that sorry.

Jamie, do you have anything to add?

January for fall

August, September for spring.

How long does each course or class last?

Angela had a question about is travel required to test centers to complete course exams or proctored testing completed from student homes using a factory in service online?

And if we're talking about tests for OCU Placer AC T or S80 that are used for admission as Patty was talking in the chat, some of the testing sites or just not available right now, they're not providing the test. So we have to wait a little bit until they offer an alternative virtually. So there's also that if your question was more related to a CTS 80 accuplacer for admission.

Sherry asked, you have any company partnerships that you offer tuition discount or.

So to tell, ask you Sciences expire. So all I answered the question of course college college credit does not expire.

Simply.

Is the program going to to be approved in any more states like Georgia soon?

So the last question here is 10 L asked so my amp can be 15 years old and it will be accepted. So because credits don't expire, it'll still be reviewed. Now Jamie Might.

Talk a little bit more about how that's applicable to the nursing program. Uhm, when I enter into conversations with pregnant students, for example, if it's been that long, sometimes they want to get a refresher of the material, especially if they're going to be pretty consistent conversation. But the short answer is they don't expire. They need you have anything else to add specific to the nursing and how.

Take place within the degree.

OK, Jackie asked just to clarify if were admitted into the program despite being out of state, are we going to pay in-state tuition or out-of-state tuition? So all online programs in state tuition? So even if you're an out of state student, it would be the in state rate.

Marriott, so is it too late to send in transcripts if I wanna start this coming fall?

So it's a Patty answer that question. It's not too late. You can submit transcripts for the fall.

OK, so first I asked how much is the program per semester so we do have the tuition per credit hour listed on on line.uark.edu. We also have our treasurer Calculator which you can estimate as well tuition and fees. If you get a treasure in. Net that you are, you tuition an estimate my tuition and fees.

And do you have an estimate is off the top of your head, Jamie or a semester?

What are how are the resources for online students so?

Yep.

So I.

I can touch on the question resources for online students. Um, Jamie, probably more specific with nursing by um resources for online students, including Center for learning this week, is that some more of the teaching the academic koljane tutoring, for example. And then there's also access to a library research opportunities as well if you need.

You know articles are whatever you know. Let me know where you're at. If you stop taking aver city core or maybe.

Uh, for lectures and type project so there's libraries worse if there's the tutoring, there's also.

Quite a bit of resources for online students. There also indicated an online.york.edu.

Do you want to add anything specific to nursing, besides of course, at Morgan?

Alexis asked is it more likely to get into the program if we already have all prerequisites?

Sharon asked the program is 3 years even if all the prerequisites are complete.

Sarah asked, you allowed to take chemistry and microbiology at the same time.

Sherry asked what are the cost of books? So on our treasurenet.uark.edu there is an estimate of book costs as well as any other type of related costs to your education, so that is also very useful tool that you can use. Of course the price varies by class, whether it's you know a book that you can get on line or a physical book so students can also use our bookstore website.

Get some in the baseline estimates for books. Um, so those are again some other tools you can use, but typically I would say it can be a couple hundred. Of course it can vary, maybe more a nursing because you don't know that you really gonna be utilizing a lot more books. You may be more equipment, right Jamie?

Do you have any estimates of that?

I think we answer this question, but are all prerequisites offered on line.

So no, for the requirement for health insurance, I know that.
